Peppermint Candy Crochet Motif

Peppermint, anyone? I designed these versatile little motifs to function as curtain tie backs. I’ve had the urge to make something with a peppermint candy look for so long now. These haven’t quite fulfilled that need so we’ll see what comes next! But for now…

There are so many things you can do with these!
Sew them onto a blanket, string them onto a fun holiday garland, use them for curtain tie-backs (like I did), coasters, ornaments and so much more!

Peppermint Motif Pattern

Materials:

  • Small amount of worsted weight yarn in red and white. I used Red Heart Super Saver in White and Red Heart With Love in Holly Berry. Any worsted weight yarn you have on hand will work!

  • Size i (5.5mm) crochet hook

  • Yarn Needle

Abbreviations:

SC: Single crochet

YO: Yarn over

ST: Stitch

Round 1: Start with white and SC 8 into a magic ring. Complete the last YO of the 8th SC with red. You will now have both red and white attached to your work. Pull the ring tight. (8)

Note: You will work continuously around without joining rounds. I recommend placing a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round so you can easily keep track.

Round 2: With red, 2 SC in next ST, switching to white with the final YO of the second SC.

With red, slip stitch to the next red stitch. Fasten off.

Curtain Tie-Back

Add a quick strap with a button to the back to use this motif as a curtain tie-back.

You can make the strap shorter or longer as needed for the bulkiness of your curtains by adding or removing chains from your starting chain. The number of chains you start with is not important.

For curtain tie-back strap:

HDC: half double crochet

Chain 35

HDC in third chain from hook and each stitch across.
HDC 2 in the last stitch
Chain 5.
2 HDC in the same stitch

HDC across the other side of your starting chain, 2 HDC in the last stitch.

Slip stitch to top of chain 2 and fasten off.

Your strap will have a loop on one side. Sew your button onto the opposite side, then sew the strap onto the back of the peppermint motif.

*You can make the chain 5 loop of the strap shorter or longer depending on the size of the button you are using.

*Before sewing everything together, hold it up to your curtains and choose the right placement for the button so the curtains will be held tight enough.
